Since the new Government was sworn-in in December 2008, Josef Ostermayer has been active as State Secretary for Media and Coordination at the Federal Chancellery. Prior to taking over his new position, he was Head of Office at the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT).
From May 2004 until 2007 when he entered the BMVIT, he was managing director of wohnfonds_wien (previously: Viennese Fund for Provision of Property and Urban Renewal (Wiener Bodenbereitstellungs- und Stadterneuerungsfonds).
Josef Ostermayer was born in Schattendorf, Burgenland, on 12th March 1961. After attending secondary school in Mattersburg, he began to study law and finished his studies in 1985. From 1987 onwards he worked as legal advisor and counsel at the Austrian Tenants Association and became its top legal expert in 1988, a position which he held until 1994 when he moved to the office of the City Councillor for Housing, Housing Construction and Urban Renewal as an employee of the Viennese Fund for Provision of Property and Urban Renewal.
Josef Ostermayer is married and has two children.
